I thought I would share a cool story all about community action and people power that turned a small 'normal' town in the north of England into a place brimming with inspirational and progressive ideas. Pam Warhurst amongst a number of other local people in the town of Todmorden pioneered a revolution against austerity and socio-political frustrations by helping local communities empower themselves to make a positive change in their hometown. They did it all through one thing which we all have in common.... Food! They did this in a number of ways, but initially mainly by growing produce in the unlikeliest of places across their town. On top of this they also wanted to incorporate learning and education as key principles for future generations whilst simaltaniously supporting local businesses more effectively. Described as guerrilla gardening through their purposeful ignorance of red tape and bureaucracy they took to force in their hometown in West Yorkshire and began taking steps into a journey that has led them a long way and yielded successful results in positive community change! Since it's inception in 2007 Edible Todmorden has now inspired heaps of other towns and cities across the world to adopt it's ideas, including 70 in the UK. Sound interesting? Have a watch of Pam's Ted Talk below for the whole story...
